Cement Shipments Drop 5.5% in April

Total shipments of portland and blended cement, including imports, in the United States and Puerto Rico in April 2025 were an estimated 9.05 million metric tons (Mt) compared with 9.18 Mt in April 2024, according to the most recent USGS Mineral Industry Survey. Shipments for the year through April totaled an estimated 29.0 Mt, a 5.5% decrease from those for the same period in 2024.

Of total blended tonnage reported year-to-date in 2025, 17.1 Mt (96%) was estimated to be portland-limestone cement (Type IL); the leading destination for Type IL shipments by tonnage was Texas. The leading producing states for portland and blended cement in April were, in descending order, Texas, Missouri, California, Florida and Alabama. The leading cement-consuming states (Texas, California, Florida, Georgia, and North Carolina, in descending order) received 41.3% of shipments in April.

Masonry cement shipments totaled an estimated 192,000 metric tons (t) in April, a 5.1% decrease from those in April 2024. Shipments for the year through April totaled an estimated 670,000 t, a decrease of 8.5% from those for the same period in 2024. The leading masonry cement-consuming states in April were, in descending order, Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, and California; these states received 53.3% of shipments in April.

Clinker production, excluding Puerto Rico, totaled an estimated 5.26 Mt in April, a 4.4% decrease from production in April 2024. Production for the year through April totaled an estimated 18.1 Mt, a 12.6% decrease from the same period in 2024. The leading clinker-producing states in April 2024 were, in descending order, Texas, California, Missouri, Florida and Alabama.
